Author, speaker, lawyer and storyteller Gyasi Ross, from the Blackfeet Nation, released his video, Miss Lady, shot, directed and edited by Wesley Roach from the spoken word/hip hop CD titled Isskootsik (Before Here was Here) on Cabin Games Records. His album is also available on iTunes.
"Harvard" Published on All Hip Hop "Native American wordsmith Gyasi Ross drops the official video for “Harvard” from his 2015 Isskootsik LP directed by Brodie Stevens and edited by Wesley Roach. The video finds Ross at the epicenter of a student/teacher classroom standoff, running down the difficulties Native Americans encounter in the U.S. educational system. The clip carries a powerful message of triumph for marginalized youth seeking higher education in environments where they have historically been discouraged from aiming high."
Gyasi Ross, releases visuals for a second track from his debut hip hop album ISSKOOTSIK (Before Here Was Here), available on iTunes, and he's again paying tribute to one of his—and Indian country's—heroes. "Winona LaDuke" tells a first-person story of "falling for" the titular activist—an experience that turns a somewhat apathetic young Native into one of the concerned faithful. "To tell you the truth, I was there for the cheap ganja in the park," Ross raps. After hearing LaDuke speak, the narrator brushes up on philosophy and returns for the next rally—wearing moccasins and eager to learn more from his new teacher.
